The Machame Route 7 Days trek is one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and popular routes, offering a longer itinerary for better acclimatization and a higher chance of reaching the summit. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it takes trekkers through diverse landscapes, from rainforest to alpine desert, moorland, and rocky ridges, culminating at Uhuru Peak. The extended duration allows a relaxed pace, giving trekkers more time to enjoy panoramic views and cultural encounters along the way.

Begin with a morning pickup from Moshi or Arusha and drive to Machame Gate for registration. Meet your professional guides and porters, attend a safety briefing, and start trekking through the lush rainforest. Enjoy waterfalls, giant ferns, and rich birdlife along the trail. Ascend gradually to Machame Camp for your first overnight stay, dinner, and rest in tents.
After breakfast, continue trekking through rainforest and transition into moorland with giant heathers, lobelias, and high-altitude flora. Ascend gradually to Shira Camp, located on a high plateau. Afternoon acclimatization hikes allow for stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Dinner and overnight in tents prepare trekkers for the higher altitude stages ahead.
